+: I love this place for its beauty and architecture and have been coming here for years (the first time 30 years ago as it was my Sri Lankan father’s favourite) . However the profile of the hotel seems to have changed -accommodating large groups of badly behaved guests has brought the experience down .
-: As mentioned above the hotels seems to have changed its profile. The first thing that meets you after the majestic entry, that took my breath away the first time I came, is a large Russian banner. The hotel seems to accommodate huge groups of tourists from this country and many of them behave badly, bringing glass bottles into the pool, (drinking a lot in general) ignoring the personnel, treating the personnel like lesser beings (we saw this several times) and not greeting, making eye contact, or even acknowledging fellow hotel guests. I can understand that the world situation makes this awkward for them, but if you choose to travel out, you should make the effort- not expect to take over a beautiful tropical destination and ignore and cancel all others just by outnumbering them. I will not return to Heritance Ahungalla (the Triton to me) until this has changed. It was very expensive too, which is such a shame when the experience is so negative. I can understand the need to make money, but ruining such a beautiful hotel and experience along the way can hardly be worth it in the long run . I’m sure the architect Geoffrey Bawa would’ve hated this development!

+: The pools were amazing, it had a real colonial style to it which was fun.
-: It’s a bit old and tired. Actually it’s not that old, but needs a good amount of maintenance to bring it back to its former glory
