Newly built and opened its door to guests in 2017, Ajwa Hotel Sultanahmet is located in famous Sultanahmet area, 10-minute walk from the Blue Mosque. This hotel is decorated in Ottoman-style and traditional accents. Featuring rooms with hand made carpets and Ottoman-style sofas, this hotel comes with a spa center and an indoor pool. +: The hotel was beautiful, really nice interior and exactly what we had in mind. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The complimentary shuttle service to Sultanahmet was a nice touch.
-: The facilities weren’t up to our expectations. We booked this hotel for its location and also because it had a pool. The pool was cold and the towels and robes for the spa were threadbare so this was really disappointing. We didn’t book any spa treatments as a result. The restaurant was very expensive and the food was very average. Our room was described as having a garden view but this ended up being an internal, artificially lit alley so there was no natural light. I wouldn’t describe the hotel as 5 star.

+: An outstanding property in Ottoman design in the heart of Istanbul. The staff were amazing, especially the host Halıma who went out of her way to make us welcome. Highly recommend.
-: The only thing to note is that the room had a shower over bath and the bath was very deep and made it difficult to get in and out of a walk-in shower would've been preferable.

+: The hotel is a delightful slice of the old east and the staff could not possibly be friendlier or more helpful. As we wanted to use the spa together (at 10pm) the hotel kept the spa open specifically for us and arranged for two therapists to work late to provide our treatments. All the staff take enormous pride in their hotel and in delivering an exceptional service.
-: It was a bit of a surprise to find that there is absolutely nowhere to buy alcohol as the hotel is totally dry. That said there are lots of bars and restaurants nearby and there is a particularly friendly bar next door. Top tip if you want wine with dinner or even just a drink, visit the rooftop bar at The Lady Diana Hotel and Spa. The hotel is not in the same league but the food and service are good and the views are out of this world.
