Overlooking white-sand beaches and the crystalline waters of the Indian Ocean, Matemwe Lodge is located on the north-east coast of Zanzibar. It features a multi-level swimming pool and a wellness center.
Featuring a veranda equipped with a hammock and a couch, each room at the Matemwe overlooks the ocean. They are individually decorated with local materials, including ethnic details and thatched roofs. Their bathrooms come with bath and walk-in shower.
Guests can enjoy the open-air restaurant, serving a menu based on local specialties prepared with fresh local fish. The buffet-style lunch offers a mix of African and European flavors. Freshly mixed cocktails are served at the poolside bar.
The spa offers a variety of massages and beauty treatments. The area offers a variety of water sports, like snorkeling and diving in the coral banks. Boat trips to Mnemba Island are available 4.3 mi away.

+: What a location and what a cottage! Nestled on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and overlooking the tide and the beach merchants the lodge is the perfect place for a hideout of 3 or 4 days. pool is excellent, acvtivities are good, the food is mostly excellent, if you do not opt for the old shrimps, having died a long time ago. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, the air is fresh and humid and salty at the same time, relaxing your bones and body. Time for reading is plenty and on the beach you can walk during low tide. perfect sands. When walking into the water, do not forget to bring sea-urchin proof shoes or watch your every step you take in the crystal clear waters. Do not walk into the water without a walking stick - it saved us several times from falling into the sea-urchin forest. The lodge organizes a trip for you. And: do not listen to your guide: If you see the water coming over the cliff, it is almost too late to safely return to the shore. Our guide made us feel safe, which we weren't. But we also liked that, a little adventure on the last day.
-: too far off from Stone Town and the airport. It took us more than 2 hours from the airport to the lodge, which is not the fault of the lodge, but something you need to keep in mind, when booking.

-: Sono un viaggiatore singolo. Ho 42 anni e vengo scambiato per uno spacciatore ( pusher). Mi ritrovo senza alcun motivo ragionevole la sicurezza in camera. Mi sento offeso come persona visto che non sono più un ragazzo. Vado su tutte le furie! Capiscono di aver fatto una GROSSA CAZZATA, MI OFFRONO UN MASSAGGIO IL GIORNO DOPO… spero di essere stato chiaro 😉

+: Spacious bungalows, cosily decorated with local materials, perched on a cliff. You can listen to the ocean waves while sleeping or swinging in your private hammock. It’s a perfect place to watch the sunrise over the ocean from your private patio. The staff and management are rey kind. The food is locally inspired and tasty. The hotel is also making good efforts on sustainability, including by providing filtered water instead of plastic bottles.
-: Matemwe beach and reef are drowning in plastic litter. Hotels on the beach could join efforts in separating out plastic from seaweed while daily cleaning their beaches rather then just piling up all mixed up and leaving the plastic on the beach.
