The pearl of Crete - the city of Heraklion
Capital of Crete - Heraklion - the largest city of the island, occupying the fifth largest in Greece. The city became the capital of the island since 1972. Rest in Heraklion has become the most popular in Greece due to its rich historical heritage, abundance of clubs, restaurants and other places of leisure.
The climate in the city is Mediterranean, as it is on the whole island. The summer is hot and dry, the air temperature reaches 38 degrees Celsius. The tourist season starts in May, and the end is in October. Winter in the city is quite warm, the temperature does not drop below 15 degrees Celsius. The main attraction of Crete is the Historical Museum, located in the capital of the island. The museum presents ancient documents of the city's development from the time of Byzantium, as well as the history of the birth of sculpture and art in general. During the tour to Heraklion, visit the Byzantine church of Agios Titos, built in 961, where before the conquest by the Turks, the relics of the saint were kept, but since 1923 the church has returned to Orthodoxy. A trip to Heraklion is a great opportunity to soak up the white beaches of the Aegean Sea. The most famous beaches of the city are Ammudara and Karteros, which have a developed infrastructure and all amenities for a good rest. On the coastline you can find a large number of hotels, restaurants, bars, as well as sports facilities for a variety of entertainment on the water.
