The hotel got its name from a native of a Jewish family, Elias Jenkelevich Wesset, who owned a villa built in 1928. In 1904, Elias Wesset laid the foundation for the Progress chocolate, cocoa and sweets factory, which was located here in Pärnu, Malmö Street.
