+: Old colonial style hotel (pictures of the Queen, grounds staff dressed in beefeater style costume etc). Very nice facilities with a lovely indoor pool. Our room was OK, but I think there are nicer ones. The buffet breakfast is stupendous.
-: The British colonial stuff is a bit cod and queasy making, especially with waitresses dressed like maids from Gone with the Wind. Given that the emphasis is on Britishness, we were very surprised to see they were flying the Russian flag. As Russia has illegally invaded Ukraine and is responsible for Alexei Navalny's death this seems at odds with British values: democracy and the rule of law. When we asked why they were flying it we were told this was because they had Russian guests! They didn't seem to realise flying a country's flag endorses what it stands for.

+: This is a magnificent heritage hotel. The interior was superb, lots of helpful staff. We enjoyed sitting near the wooden fireplace.There was a live music every evening, which was nice to hear. However, it’s an old hotel, so better ask for a quiet room in advance.Good heater in the room, as well as a bath with hot water, so don’t worry about freezing:)Great location in the center of Nuwara Eliya near the Queen Victoria park. Free parking available.We enjoyed playing snooker, which is located near the heritage bar. The room with billiard is heritage itself with a 19th century tables and decors. Great place to learn playing with a great snooker master.There are several dining options in the hotel. We loved Grand Indian with delicious food and very friendly service.
